Be Free Young Carers logoHave you got any unused volunteering days from your employer?

Would you like to spend them going on a fun trip to somewhere like Thorpe Park? You would? Then read on!

Local charity Be Free Young Carers (check them out here) is looking for volunteers to support young carers on day trips this summer. These young people (between 8-18 years old) care for family members with a long-term illness or disability.

Young carers often describe their lives as isolated, with few or no friends, high levels of anxiety and stress as they cope with their caring responsibilities. They urgently need friendly, patient and caring volunteers to provide relaxed and informal support during trips during the school holidays.

Be Free Young Carers (‘BFYC’) arranges 22 trips, training and events each year. Each event usually involves around 25 young carers and we need two volunteers to help our staff supervise the group. BFYC provides vital supervision to ensure that the young carers are safe and supported whilst on the trip.

Events vary in length; some, such as a group trip to Thorpe Park, are a full day, and others may be just a half day or an evening. As a volunteer, you will receive safeguarding training before attending an event as well as requiring a DBS check.
